Day 79 Pau
Friday February 22nd.
Woke up this morning in extreme pain – having a attack in my left knee and right wrist. I take my meds and start some prednisone. I am so sad -there is so much I want to see but I cannot even walk. I wonder what triggers the attacks – too much cheese perhaps?
So I start catching up on blogging while I lay in bed and the girls are getting ready. I actually take a vicodine – not sure what we are going to do.
There is a chateau and a scenic walk we wanted to do here.
I add up the days of the trip and realize to whole duration is only 96 days - up till now I have been thinking it was 110. So as of today we only have 15 more days. The duration of the trip from a perception of time passing has been neither long nor short – it is amazing when we think about all of the places we have been and how much we have learned and how our perspectives have broadened. I am not sure if the original goals have been met but it is an experience I would not trade for anything. It also feels like a scouting trip for places we might like to return to, but at the same time there are so many other places to see. If money were not concern I think I could very happily live out my life travelling throughout the world – learning languages and studying art and history. What would my mark be on this world living such a Life? Perhaps I could write a book or create art? Again I find myself longing to be very wealthy.
The w key on my notebook is not always registering when I type on it.
It was hard remembering the details of the last 5 days but the girls helped.
I end up going with the girls to visit the Chateau. It is a great free tour – only in French but there is an English brochure. The place is decorated as it was in the 1840's. Beautiful tapestries. Truly amazing. Makes me want to decorate our home better.
We stop for lunch – I am in a lot of pain – the place the girls pick is too expensive and we wait for 5 minutes without a menu – we decide to leave.
The next place is actually in the guide book – it was very good. We all share our dishes and order dessert since the place is well know for it. I have a colonel – a citrus sorbet with vodka – it is fabulous.
Back to the car and we head for Biarritz.
We arrive and find a room. It is a seaside town on the Atlantic – this is the first time the girls have seen the Atlantic.
I am in much pain – the Allysha and Pam go to explore and have dinner. They bring back snacks for Aria and I.
