Day 75 Nice
Monday February 18th.
I am writing this on Saturday the 22nd – I have not blogged since last Sunday. It has been very busy and I am in love with France. The only reason I am blogging now is I have had a terrible attack of arthritis – my knee is swollen and my right wrist – I am laying in the hotel room in pain and wondering what I am going to do.
Anyways, last Monday we spent time in Nice. What a wonderful city!
In the morning we looked into a rental car – the plan that is emerging is to drive across the south of France seeing the sights e wish to – all the way to the Atlantic the city of Biarritz – supposed to be the best surfing in France.
The Weather is spectacular. I really enjoy this place – I can imagine how busy it must be on the French Riviera during the summer. Although the beaches are small pebbles it is 6km long and bordered by a huge promenade.
We got on a Tour bus that does a 1.5 hour circle with commentary. What a great way to see the city and the commentary adds so much context it was wonderful. We got off at the museum Matisse. I think his work in negative – the white on black is some of my favorite. I do not like the paper cut-out pieces quite as much but with only a few lines his drawings can convey so much – it is amazing.
We got lost looking for restaurants in the old town – when we found them they were closed – we eventually ate at a place right on the antique market.
We decide to stay another night – we found a cheaper hotel only a few blocks from our current place. Pam and Aria head back to the hotel and get a cab to move the luggage to the new hotel while I take Allysha on some rides at a small temporary amusement park set up in the main square for Carnival.
Allysha makes a friend – Sharon wile bouncing on a trampoline ride – it is amazing watching them communicate thought sign language and actions.
Pam and Aria rejoin us and Allysha and Aria get some treats from the snack stand - candy apple, cotton candy and a slushy.
We got to dinner – although I am tired Pam and I head to the Casino. We use some coupons and get free champagne – I also get a Heineken. We play some video poker – lose 50 Euro but have fun and head back to the room about 2am.
