Phone Fiasco

Well, last night I called to see of the phones arrived – Allysha said they had – I asked her to open the package and check – thank goodness.

One of the phone packages had everything in the box…. except for the handset. This morning I called the outfit I ordered it from www.gsmhotdeals.com in NY. I was less than impressed with their response – they asked me to file a claim with UPS and not to cancel payment with VISA.

Pam was a great help – she called VISA and the company and hopefully tomorrow there will be some resolution. I am very concerned that I will not have the phone in time for the trip – just have to keep my fingers crossed. UPS is picking up the package tomorrow. Worst case scenario I dispute the charge and order the phones from another provider – the problem is it is very hard to find these phones at a US provider.

Having a good work trip this week -wrapping up loose ends – saying my goodbyes. I am going to miss the people I work with but I expect there will be a lot of contact.

It's getting late here – I am going to call it a night.

How to Geo-Locate Pictures

I spent quite a few hours figuring out how this will be achieved -for those that are interested here is how we are doing it. The Nokia N73 Phones were selected for their quality camera - and will be used for photographs by Aria and Allysha (as well as music and GSM unlocked phones) in addition to 2 Fuji cameras our trusty FinePix Z1 and a newly acquired FinePix Z10fd will be used to capture pictures. Nothing special needs to be done except for ensuring the clocks on all of these devices are synchronized to GPS time - the phones are but the cameras require some work. Next using a GPS receiver which is synced with one of the cell phones we will simply simply start tracking our movement in the morning using a free program from Nokia called Sports Tracker installed on the phones. This program uses the GPS to track speed and distance over time - it was designed as a work-out tracking device but fits our needs as well. Day 77 St. Tropez to Nimes

Wednesday February 20 th Again we woke to glorious weather. On the way out of town we stop for a road map of France. Our next stop is Avignon, a walled city built in the mid 13 th century. I guess the bridge at Avignon is part of a famous nursery rhyme – which none of us had ever heard. We walked around the town and our plan was to eat lunch here and move on. The first place we sat down at was very expensive and was not serving the formulae or set menu since it was already a little after 2pm. We decided to move on and next door we found a set menu. Following lunch we visited the Musee Angladon – a donated private collection from Jaques Doucet (1853-1929). There was a Van Gogh – Railway Cars, works by Picasso, Vegas, Manet. A nice collection – I imagine what it would be lie to be surrounded by such works at my own house. Thoughts on New Zealand

As we depart each country I am going to try to summarize my impressions. New Zealand is a beautiful country with varied features. I have never seen so many shades of green. I can only imagine if it had not been overcast during our entire trip it would be even more striking – especially the coast line. The people we met were not overly friendly, but certainly not rude either. I never heard a New Zealander say thank you, sorry or your welcome. I suppose there are some hints in that fact regarding their attitudes towards life. When I overheard conversations they were often about the economy or politics – we were even asked about our next president. They seem much more world savvy then the typical American. I can see how a true exploration of the country could take months per island – even the travelers we came across seemed to be permanent travelers – they would work for a few months and then travel for a few months – and had been doing that for years – what an interesting lifestyl...
