Day 55 Firenze
Tuesday January 29th
As far as I can tell this is about the half-way point. For some reason it does not feel like it. It feels like we are much closer to the end of our adventure – perhaps because we only have a couple countries left.
I am writing this Friday Morning and we are sitting in the train station waiting for the train to Venice. I am hoping I can remember everything we did over the last few days.
We have had internet access at the Hotel Dante so I was able to get caught up on bills and work. It was nice being able to communicate with people and I feel less disassociated with my company and the world in general.
We finalized arrangements for our house sitter to move out – that is a relief.
So Tuesday – what did we do… let me think.
We first hit the Museum de Bargello – it is spectacular - very enjoyable.
Then we hit the Ufisizi Gallery. Normally very hard to get into we had no trouble – just walked right in off the street.
Each of these places had so many pieces – not having a lot of training regarding art or art history I mostly find myself just enjoying looking at the pieces. I enjoy the parable driven art – those based on Greek or Roman mythology. In my mind and imagination there are so many styles and periods that I have never bothered to actually learn them - but somehow in seeing them I have the impression that the number is not as great as I once thought – history and dates always seem so difficult for me to remember and put into perspective. This trip is actually showing me that our history is not as long and undiscoverable as I once thought – one of my concerns had been how our race can pass knowledge on as history grows longer – perhaps. I am also learning that history is very much based on the perception of the person documenting or capturing it. Perhaps that is the next great step – a unified council of people that gather the history of our race and in a vetted manner tries to capture the events from an unbiased perspective? Or perhaps capture them from all biased perspectives?
Back at the hotel I worked.
The DVD's have been unplayable because my DVD player is region locked even with lots of trial I have been able to get them to play successfully.
We went to dinner – Allysha got to help out in the kitchen making deserts - talking to the desert chef we start thinking we should go to Venice next since Carnivale is going on for the next few days and it will be quite an experience – I just hope we can find a place to stay.
The girls went shopping in the evening.
